Terry Yanke
Chief Instructor
Terry Yanke Shihan is the Chief Instructor of Waterloo Jiu Jitsu.
Terry is a former Waterloo Regional Police Officer and was an Emergency Response Team Leader. He combines martial arts with techniques he used when he was a police officer to create a very effective self-defense system.
He has taught classes in local schools and businesses and is a trainer for women’s self defense programs.

Former President of the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association and World Council of Jiujitsu Organizations.

Roberto Rodriguez
Sandan
Roberto Dominguez Rodriguez is an instructor at the Waterloo Jiu Jitsu Club

Roberto began his martial arts journey at the age of 11. A fan of karate and kung fu films, Roberto joined judo to help build a stronger base, foundation and muscle for other martial arts.
​
Roberto fell in love with Japanese martial arts and started training in traditional jiu jitsu, training with Sensei Morita Ryu at the first Japanese Jiu Jitsu school in Cuba.

Some of his accomplishments include:
3rd degree Black Belt awarded by the Ontario Jiu jitsu Association
2nd degree Black Belt awarded by the Cuban Jiu Jitsu Federation and the Club Jiu-Jitsu Ha-Ryu Traditional
Brown Belt in Judo
Attended Tambo Jiu Jitsu seminar hosted by Hachidan Alberto Salas Cham
Attended Goshindo seminar hosted by Hanshi Alain Sailly


Mike Carbage
Owner, Shodan
Mike Carbage, Shodan, is an instructor and the owner of Waterloo Jiu Jitsu.
Mike began studying jiu jitsu at the age of 24 after practicing several other martial arts in his youth. The combative and real world applications taught as well as the traditional elements of jiu jitsu is what drew him to the art of flexibility.
Mike teaches regularly throughout the week, and in the past has taught local Waterloo scouts, women's self defense classes, as well as private instruction for departments at the University of Waterloo
